Manual Mode vs. Automatic Modes
In this lesson, we'll explore the differences between manual mode and automatic modes, their benefits, and when to use each. We'll also provide a practical exercise to help you gain hands-on experience with these modes.
Understanding manual mode and its benefits
Manual mode gives you full control over your camera's settings, including aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. This allows you to make creative decisions based on your vision and the specific shooting conditions.
Using manual mode can lead to better exposure, improved image quality, and increased understanding of how different settings affect your photos.
Automatic modes: aperture priority, shutter priority, and program mode
Aperture priority (A/Av): In this mode, you set the aperture, and the camera automatically selects the shutter speed to achieve the correct exposure. This is useful when you want to control depth of field.
Shutter priority (S/Tv): Here, you set the shutter speed, and the camera adjusts the aperture accordingly. This is helpful when you want to control motion blur or freeze action.
Program mode (P): In program mode, the camera chooses both aperture and shutter speed for you, but you can still adjust other settings like ISO, white balance, and focus mode.
